No one makes the short-necked oud resonate with sweeter melodious sighs than Tunisian Anouar Brahem,
a celebrated star on stages around the world. Dialogue between cultures is a key priority for him, and he deliberately avoids exotic clichés. Here, the free spirit of improvisation, typical of modern jazz, meets the harmonies of Western compositional tradition and the refined forms of Eastern cultures. He achieved worldwide renown thanks to his recordings for ECM – his unforgettable collaboration with Dave Holland and John Surman remains etched in the memory.
One of his most beautiful albums is "The Astounding Eyes of Rita", recorded with an exceptional quartet: Bjoern Meyer (bass), Klaus Gesing (bass clarinet, saxophone) and Khaled Yassine (darbuka, bendir). In 2023, the quartet enchanted the Alhambra to a sold-out crowd; now, the maestro will play with the same formation on May 14, 2026 in the magnificent Victoria Hall in Geneva and present his new album "After The Last Sky".
