Description:Crime & the City Solution
Crime & the City Solution is an Australian post-punk and art-punk band formed in 1977 in Sydney by SIMON BONNEY (vocals), DON McLENNAN (drums), HARRY ZANTENI (guitar), PHIL KITCHENER (bass) and DAVID McKINNON (sax)..
The group experienced 4 distinct periods in 4 different cities:
Sydney (1977-78), Melbourne (1979), London (1985-86), Berlin (1987-90).
Some musicians who collaborated on Crime & the City Solution: Rowland S Howard (Birthday Party, Immortal Souls), Mick Harvey (Birthday Party, Bad seeds), Epic Soundtrack (Swell Maps), Alexander Hacke (Einstruzende Neubauten), Chrislo Haas (DAF , Dangerous Liaisons), Bronwyn Adams, Thomas Stern.
Signed to Mute, the group released 9 albums and several EPs and made an appearance in the film “Wings of Desire” by Wim Wenders. Their latest album (6th studio album) “The Killer” was recorded in Berlin by the second incarnation of the group based in the German capital. Core members Simon Bonney and Bronwyn Adams were joined by Frederic Lyenn (piano, bass, synth), Donald Baldie (guitar), Georgio Valentino (synth, guitar), Chris Hughes (drums, percussion) and Joshua Murphy (piano, guitar ). For the first time, they worked with a producer, the legendary Martin J. Fiedler, who also added a synth and mellotron to the album.
Joshua Murphy
Born and raised in the Australian outback, Joshua Murphy to some extent followed the path of Nick Cave – he eventually settled in Berlin and became involved in the local scene as a member of various groups, promoter and club owner. Despite the dark ceremonial emotion that has always been associated with Berlin, “Lowlands” draws its main inspirations from Joshua's homeland.
