Description:"Father, you cannot imagine the beauty of the sound of the clarinet!" wrote Mozart to his father, Leopold, in 1778 after attending a concert by the Mannheim Orchestra. This ensemble was then one of the first to have integrated this relatively new, and still little-used, wooden instrument into its music stand. Seduced by the sound and expressive potential of the clarinet, Mozart dedicated some of his most beautiful works to it, including the poignant Concerto for clarinet and orchestra in A major KV 622 which he composed a few weeks before his death in 1791.
Performed by the brilliant Italian clarinetist Kevin Spagnolo, first prize winner at the Geneva Competition in 2018, with the Orchestre de la Suisse romande, conducted by the young Swiss conductor Marc Leroy-Calatayud, this concerto will be surrounded by two other flagship works by Mozart: his famous Little Night Music and its tragic and stormy 25th Symphony composed shortly before he turned 18. A program like Mozart: poetic, sparkling and dramatic.
Chairs will be available for this concert. Please note, limited quantity!
