Originally from Tamanrasset, in the Algerian desert, Imarhan represents the new generation of Tuareg music. Like Tinariwen, their blues is imbued with rock and groove. For 15 years, Tuareg culture and music have fascinated the world. Their quasi-sacred poetic songs inspire Western authors and guitarists like Jimmy Page, José Gonzales or Kurt Vile, as well as electronic music producers like Four Tet. Their next album “Aboogi”, which will be released on the City Slang label, manipulates the rites and ancestrality of the Tuaregs while uniting all of Africa and beyond: “We talk about the connection to nature, oppression, lost youth, hope and struggle on sandy guitar riffs, haunting choirs and poetic lyrics.”
