Description:12TH EDITION: CINEMA!
The Athenian women wish to pay homage to the 7th art, and more broadly to the various links which unite music and cinema in an almost essential way. Whether in the often improvised “live” music of the silent film era; in the use by directors of works from the classical, romantic or contemporary repertoire; in films paying homage to music or musicians; in musical films, of the "musical comedy" type; or in specially composed film scores that have become as “cult” as the films themselves, these links are numerous, of great richness, of great creative power.
This 12th edition will therefore explore the great love story between music and the big screen, with the ideal location being the Alhambra hall, formerly a cinema, which was described as "the most beautiful image hall in Switzerland" at the beginning of the 20th century.
We will hear music by Bach, Handel, Schubert, Vivaldi, Brahms, Liszt, Mahler, Barber, Ravel, Debussy, Beethoven, Pärt, Wagner, Adams, Glass… used by many directors: Visconti, Kubrick, Bergman, Tarkovski, Scorsese, Lars von Trier, Lynch, Guadagnino, Louis Malle, Wim Wenders, Pasolini, Truffaut, Antonioni, Haneke, Wes Anderson, Sorrentino, Audiard, Sautet, Hitchcock…
Some of the great film music composers are also on the program: Lalo Schifrin, Leonard Bernstein, Nino Rota, Bernard Herrmann, Michel Legrand, Ennio Morricone, Bill Evans, Georges Delerue, John Barry, Giorgio Moroder…
Image, too, with cine-concerts, and in particular a “Tex Avery” session, with new arrangements by the young and talented Dimitri Soudoplatoff, conducting the Geneva Chamber Orchestra.
The 3rd evening parties and DJ sets will also take on the color of different cinematographic currents.
And an exceptional event, expected for several editions, the arrival of actor John Malkovich, a major figure in cinema!
This edition celebrating the inexhaustible alliance of music and cinema remains of course faithful to the favorite recipe of the Athenians: the artistic requirement, the eclecticism of the projects and the music, served by extraordinary musicians, in a festive and warm atmosphere. .
