Description:

Concert-conference: “Silsila” or musical transmission from generation to generation. Music room (+2). Friday December 1st at 12:30 p.m.

The instrumental meetings are the result of a collaboration between the MEG and the Ethnomusicology Workshops (ADEM). During this musical moment, musicians present their instruments and their repertoire to us.
The Silsila duo invites you to share an intense experience at the heart of which the “Tree of Modes” is firmly rooted: a fascinating network of melodies and rhythms distinguished not only by their antiquity, but also by their capacity to flourish. in the present moment through the art of improvisation. Inspired both by the elements of nature, on a cosmic scale, and the moods of medieval Arabic medicine, on a microcosmic scale, this system which unites music, poetry, philosophy and science reveals a profound understanding of Man, beyond his material appearances. The 'ûd lute appears as one of its noblest servants. Its mythology associates it with the human body, its body taking the shape of a thigh, its handle of a tibia and its ankle of a foot; its strings – uruq – would be the veins and the openings made on its soundboard – uyun – the eyes. Those who handle it artfully know how to explore its soul and bring out its multiple characters (ethos).
An instrument of solitary meditation as well as of exchange, of scholarly and popular music, the 'ûd calls for dialogue: between artists and their audience, between earth and sky, between Man and himself...
The father and son duo, Marc and Thomas Loopuyt, embodies the concept of musical transmission dear to the Eastern tradition. SILSILA, which means “the chain” in Arabic, directly refers to know-how that is passed on from master to disciple, from generation to generation.
Marc Loopuyt has traveled the oriental musical world to almost every nook and cranny throughout his career: from Andalusia to the Maghreb, from Azerbaijan to Turkey, with a particular attachment to certain masters like Cinuçen Tanrekorur (Turkey) and Malik Mansurov (Azerbäidjan). His son Thomas Loopuyt, born in Fez, chose to follow in his footsteps, obviously bringing his own sensitivity, exploring the popular Moroccan repertoire and the Turkish fasel. Inheritance happens like this, constantly renewing itself, crystallizing tradition in the present moment.
This instrumental meeting takes place as part of the ADEM anniversary entitled: 40 years listening to the world (it will be celebrated with a festival which will be held from September 17 to December 14, 2023.
