“[A show] that marries my rap with gospel voices and symphonic musicians. The gospel for my roots and my light. The symphony for grace and emotion. My rap for my fight and my strength. I have stories to tell you with poetry and humor. It will be beautiful, powerful, surprising and above all unique. Revisit differently, celebrate differently. Welcome to this Experience. This Symphonic Gospel Experience.»
Youssoupha's CV speaks for itself: 6 albums, countless invitations by major artists from all walks of life, a career that has lasted nearly twenty years. But to stay there would be to miss the point: his writing gives the language an extraordinary musicality. The mesh of sounds, the resonances of rhymes, alliterations and assonances, coupled with the meaning of his deep texts, form a unique language. Youssoupha is not one of those who, in recent years, have given rap sounds, placements and themes unknown until then; he is one of those who brought about these changes, because he is the pinnacle of a way of rapping.
A key cultural player in French-speaking Switzerland, the Orchester de la Suisse Romande is the first symphony orchestra in the region. Founded in 1918, it is made up of 112 musicians and is now one of the great international orchestras.
When the OSR plays alongside it, it is therefore not a classical orchestra that invites a popular musician, but two classics that meet.
Arranger, conductor and cellist: Olivier Koundouno
